Terry Kindred. Photo Wes AllenSlade, KY.- Well known Red River Gorge first ascentionist Terry Kindred took his own life on Sunday, May 29, and the entire community mourns this loss. Services will be held at Cox Funeral Home in Mount Vernon at 10 am Wednesday. His ashes will be scattered in the gorge afterwards at Sky Bridge. More details can be found on this thread at Red River Climbing.
I've only been to the Red about 4 times. I think I saw him there every single time. He made me feel like I'd been an old friend from 20 years ago, and that I was visiting for the 400th time.
When I think of planning trips to the Red, one of the first things I think: "Sweet! We'll get to chat with Terry!" And oh what conversations they were. From physics to philosophy to aging to economics.
It won't be the same without him.
